FUBARgenre: The Genre of Fubar

I Blog, Therefore I Am

Finally.

After months of planning and procrastinating, out comes this new blog, the nth of a series of blogs that I’ve started but inadvertently (er-) abandoned (except for that other blog which will remain anonymous - for now, anyway).

This blog is my first attempt to break out of the “dear diary” mode that has plagued my blogging habit for the longest time. No offense to journal writers. I, too, am an avid champion of the personal journal (there’s nothing quite as therapeutic, is there?). But time has come for me to explore the other genres in which (I flatter myself into thinking) I used to flourish.

So, this. My first attempt. And hopefully not my last.

During the initial stages of development (i.e., talking and planning about creating this blog, but not really doing anything about it), one of my favorite bloggers asked me to describe the voice that will dominate this space. And all I could answer was, “Mine.”

But in retrospect, that may not be entirely true (at least I hope not). The writer’s voice would be mine, but the vision would not be constricted to a singular stubborn point of view (admittedly a frequent shortcoming of this vanity medium).

The goal is to write about people and their lives from their vantage point. [Note: I am tempted to write, "to provide a voice for the voiceless" here, but I don't want to sound too ominous. Nor the least bit hifalutin.]

The goal is to make FubarGenre.com a freedom wall for public opinion, among other things.

But don’t expect me to tackle politics, for the debates would be endless. Nor religion, for my opinions would not be popular. Nor celebrities, for I care not for their foible.

Instead, expect me to be true to myself. And more importantly, true to my readers.

While I cannot guarantee complete objectivity (I’m a blogger, not a journalist - whatdoyouexpect?), I can guarantee a hundred percent honesty.

As far as content goes, that’s all I can say for now. As you may have noticed, I have no clear direction for this blog at this point. But however this entry sounds (lest I sound like a pompous writer ready to take over the entire blogosphere - puhleeze, I have no such aspirations), let me just say that I intend for this to be fun. If not for you, then for me at least. Yup, whatever the outcome of this “experiment”, I’m ready to kick back and have a great time! :-)

At this point, you’ve probably picked up a few things about me. In particular: (1) I’m fond of parentheses - duh!; (2) I write my thoughts without any particular attention to cohesiveness; and (3) I don’t know the difference between cohesiveness and cohesion because I can’t be bothered to check a dictionary.

Not interesting enough for the blogosphere, huh?

Oh, well.

And FUBAR?

I’m surprised you need to ask.

Not my name, no. Just the name of my blog. And FYI: it may or may not sum up who I am.

Still don’t know what it means?

Show a little initiative and google it, okay?

;-)
