Paradigm Shift: SATI without Ian Zafra
By Yan • Apr 2nd, 2007 • Category: Groupie-isms
“I’m not with SATI anymore, by the way.”
The way he said it, he could as well have said, “I took a bath yesterday, by the way.” The nonchalance was as shocking as the statement itself.
Ian Zafra. A pioneering icon in the cebu music scene. An inspiration among Cebuano indie musicians. A passionate champion of indieology. Quitting the band (and the brand) he built from scratch. Ian Zafra. No longer with Sheila and the Insects.
A paradigm shift, indeed.
Eksena thinks the Manila scene may be cursed, whereas IndieCultureOnline.com simply refers to Ian’s departure as a downtime.
But according to Ian, a personal friend and one of my favorite drinking buddies, his SATI journey has ended. He has already proven a point — that Cebuano bands can make it anywhere — and it is simply time to move on.
What that means is open to interpretation.
But for now, we grieve.
It’s the end of an era. And it’s time to move on.
