Hastang’s ‘Random’ to Appear in Feature Film
By Yan • Apr 30th, 2007 • Category: Groupie-ismsSo it’s official. Though no deal has been inked as of this writing, the verbal agreement has been all but finalized. Random, the popular single by Cebu-based indie band Hastang, will be featured in the soundtrack of the upcoming film “Angel of Love” (story by Rebecca Aguila, screenplay by Gina Marissa Tagasa, directed by Mark Reyes).
Some behind-the-scenes info:
- Jennylyn Mercado (of FHM fame?) will sing Random in the opening sequence of the movie.
- The production crew will re-shoot the opening sequence this weekend to incorporate Random in the movie.
- Hastang retains all rights to the song.
- Hastang may fly to Manila to promote the song.
Some ‘Random’ Trivia:
- Random is not a love song.
- I wrote the lyrics of the song in 2003. In 2005, Tessa (vocalist) and Guile (bassist) collaborated to create the basic melody. The entire band then collaborated to develop the final arrangement.
- Random is not autobiographical, although it does have some elements of me in it.
- Since it debuted in the local airwaves in 2006, the song has found several interpretations. But it has always had a personal meaning to me. Whatever that is, it’s for me to know and for you to find out.
- I am very much in love with Hastang’s drummer. We have been together for 8 happy years.
