Waiting for my Real Life to Begin

By Yan • Jul 25th, 2007 • Category: Soliloquy

Scrubs performing Colin Hay’s “Waiting for My Real Life to Begin.” I so love it. It’s the background music to my pressure-laden work week.

[Okay, I know this is so 3 4 years ago. But I really don't have the luxury of lying down and watching TV. I only get to see drama series, sitcoms, and the like whenever I pause for air after a particularly hellish stretch of time. This year, my current theme seems to be medical shows - having consumed House and Grey's Anatomy episodes in previous months (squeezed in between 24 and Heroes eps - I hate you, Gen, for getting me hooked on Heroes!). Scrubs is the most recent of the lot.]

Don’t you just love the lyrics? Ahhh, I can’t wait for my real life to begin…

WAITING FOR MY REAL LIFE TO BEGIN
written by: Colin Hay / Thom Mooney

Any minute now, my ship is coming in
I’ll keep checking the horizon
I’ll stand on the bow, feel the waves come crashing
Come crashing down down down, on me

And you say, be still my love
Open up your heart
Let the light shine in
But don’t you understand
I already have a plan
I’m waiting for my real life to begin

When I awoke today, suddenly nothing happened
But in my dreams, I slew the dragon
And down this beaten path, and up this cobbled lane
I’m walking in my old footsteps, once again
And you say, just be here now
Forget about the past, your mask is wearing thin
Let me throw one more dice
I know that I can win
I’m waiting for my real life to begin

Any minute now, my ship is coming in
I’ll keep checking the horizon
And I’ll check my machine, there’s sure to be that call
It’s gonna happen soon, soon, soon
It’s just that times are lean

And you say, be still my love
Open up your heart, let the light shine in
Don’t you understand
I already have a plan
I’m waiting for my real life to begin

  3. Hi, Dodong. I love the lyrics, too. It speaks volumes, don’t you think? The melody isn’t so bad either. :)
