10 Things You Should Know About Yannie Girl

by Jojo

Note added by Yan: As a rule, I try not to make this blog too personal. But by writing the article below, Jojo has single-handedly undone months of safe and careful blogging. Since I promised him that I would publish his work (with no major revisions whatsoever), and I do know how to keep my word, here it is in full. And here’s hoping you’d keep an open mind about #1 and #2.

  1. Oh, how this girl loves! With vigor and relish, and in defiance of norms, standards, and what is commonly explainable. Let’s take as an example this incident with a guy she really liked back in college. In one of our night outs, after being supposedly “turned down” by him, she sought comfort in the bathroom of this bar we were in. In its confines, against all wet and slimy odds, defying common sense, forgetting everything she stood for, ignoring expert friendly advice, she blurts out “but I want more!” (referring to him-who-must-not-be-named) in drunken madness, barely able to stand, with tears, slime, vomit, and bitterness all over her.
  2. She abhors him and it (referring to number 1) now with gusto (all the necessary facial expressions and gestures included) thinking she will be redeemed from that dastardly act. Sometimes, she has attacks of amnesia. The very selective kind.
  3. Now, that she has found the FOCUS and locus of her life’s existence, of her utmost hormonal affections, she has someone to share her passion and zest (fortunately or unfortunately, that includes booze and smoke) for life with. I must say that her relationship with Mark is truly admirable.
  4. What is not is her “Mark & I are getting married” pronouncements every now and then. It is probably the most highly devalued currency in the market. As such, you don’t know its real value anymore or you just take it like you didn’t hear anything.
  5. Just like this “believable” story she told me back in first year college. She said she wanted to enter the convent back in high school, of how she actually had talks with a group of nuns. Had it materialized, it could have spelled disaster for the convent. Makapanguros ko maghunahuna. She’s just too passionate to be in there.
  6. One of her passions is, of course, writing. Needless to say, she writes very well and has a very good command of the English language. Let there be no doubts. She’s got good penmanship too. Because of her writing abilities, she was one of the editors in a college commercial paper. She has also contributed articles to Youngblood.
  7. It makes sense then, that, among us, she was the first to be exposed to the realities of adult life. Just a few months after college, she was already complaining of the cutthroat competition in the corporate world, of how she has to slug it out, of incompetent bosses, of difficult co-workers. Consequently, she was the first to declare independence from such a life and proceeded to do “her own thing” with the person she loves.
  8. So, it’s amazing that she gets to do her own thing with the person she loves and end up being the highest paid among us. And she gets to be online most of the time. She has issues, of course. Like whatever happened to her passions and what she wanted to do in life.
  9. She wanted to be a lawyer, you know. And we actually had plans of having our own law office, of how we will conquer the world using the law. Whatever happened, I guess, can be attributed to the shifts and turns in the journey called life.
  10. But, one thing will never change and that is that Yan2x is a very good friend. And I will leave it at that because I can neither qualify nor quantify that quality in her.

bisita is a guest writer kind enough to fill this space.

  1. [...] loud, my family reads this blog! I took a chance (braving potential scorn) by publishing Jojo’s misguided 10 things about me. But after obsessing about it (just ask Gen), I feel that I owe myself a little self-serving [...]
