Top 20 Schools in the Philippines

I just received the Top 20 Schools in the Philippines report through my college org’s egroup (thanks, Jo!).

Of course, my alma mater, the University of the Philippines Diliman (UP Diliman), tops the list yet again.

In fact, UP seems to have monopolized the top three spots, with UP Los Banos and UP Manila trailing behind at #2 and #3, respectively.

Surprisingly, Ateneo University campuses only ranked #5 (Ateneo de Davao), #6 (Ateneo de Manila), and #12 (Xavier). Surprising because I have such a high regard for Ateneo. Apparently, however, Silliman University’s performance has surpassed that of Ateneo’s in the past 10 years (that is, if this list is an accurate assessment). I love the artsy-fartsy city of Dumaguete, so let me be the first to say, “Hurray, Silliman!”

A newcomer in this list is Urios College (#14). According to the email I got (forwarded from a Rhocsan thread), Urios made waves only after a certain UP Diliman alumnus, Ariel Tagapolot, joined the faculty as the Dean of the College of Engineering. The implication being, UP Diliman should take credit for Urios’ success? :lol: While I’m pretty sure that Mr. Tagapolot is a brilliant dean and has probably done wonders for Urios, I seriously doubt that he’s solely responsible for its success. Nice try, Rhocsans. And good job, Urios. Welcome to the club. :) Beating a more established (and certainly wealthier) school like De La Salle University is a huge feat, indeed. Hats off to you. And to you, too, Mr. Tagapolot. ;)

And of course, kudos to all of us UP Diliman graduates! Please repost this in your blog and help spread the word. :razz:

This is a result of the study conducted by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), based on the average passing in the BOARD EXAMINATIONS OF ALL COURSES of all universities and colleges in the Philippines. This study is concluded every 10 years. Eleven schools come from Luzon, two from the Visayas and seven from Mindanao.

    Well at least The Ateneos managed to rank higher than their arch rival… I’m not from Silliman but my parents and everyone else in the family is from that school… and I’m very happy that it ranked 4th (after 3 consecutive UP places) :grin:

    5 or so years after I graduated from college, I realized that one’s university doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Yes, I’m still proud to be a UP Diliman product. But it doesn’t make me better than anyone else. In the grand scheme of things, what matters is your skill, passion, and resilience.

    pero kung papipiliin ako ng nursing program between Far Eastern Univ saka Univ of the East…
    eh UE na ako..
    98% passing nila…at 2nd sila sa mga top nursing school in the country..
    saka no offencement….ung mga classmate ko na hindi maxadong nabigyan ng angking karunungan
    eh pumasa sa FEU..saka panu sila makakapag provide ng good quality ng education eh tanggap sila ng tanggap ng mga students lalo na sa nursing…sabi nga ng classmate ko dati na pumasa sa FEU parang may morning at afternoon shift sila sa nursing….hahaha..nakakatawa… :lol: :lol: :lol:
    kahit hindi ako taga UE at wala akong galit sa FEU
    ang masasabi ko lang
