taking the bar out of fubar

my dad has a weird sense of humor

By Yan • Nov 18th, 2007 • Category: Random Tidbits

This from a guy who nags me about my smoking every chance he gets:

I went back to name of client deleted* today for a possible new project. After the meeting, I asked to be toured around the production plant. Inside the plant, I noticed a few people smoking inside a glass cubicle. I thought those people were taking a break, but was told that they were part of the quality system. They were paid to do random tasting/puffing all day long. Client* has to make sure that the same quality goes into every stick. Would any of my kids be interested in this kind of job? I could probably pull some strings…

[emailed through our family e-group]

smokersHow sad that all of Daddy’s three daughters smoke. Sadder, still, (and a little ironic) if you put it in this context: my Dad quit the moment he found out that my Mom was pregnant with their first baby, little me, the so-called walking chimney in the family.

I’ve been killing myself with cigarettes for the past 11 years (yeah, I started young…urgh!). It’s time to quit. I will puff my last doze of nicotine on December 31, 2007. I will start the new year with clear lungs. Mark my words. And hold me up to that promise.

There are, after all, other ways to (er, uhm–) sublimate my oral fixation.

And…

uhm…

Gen, you inspire me.

*Dad asked me to remove the name of his client. A client is a client is a client. And it’s business as usual for all involved. And, yes, apparently, he reads this blog. Yikes!

yeah, i’m quitting. it’s about time. i’m not getting any younger.

it’s been a month and a half since gen said goodbye to cigarettes for good. actually, she just had a slight misstep last friday. she smoked 5 sticks. but that’s it. she’s been so great so far. very inspiring, wouldn’t you say?

di ba ni-quit na man sad ka?

    let’s all quit na.

smoking is an ugly addiction. really ugly. and stinky.

  3. ay wait. murag kami na lang man tingali ni mark ang wa pa ni-quit. sakay na lang mi sa uso. hehehe. mu-quit sad mi. bitaw oi, it’s about time.

  4. patay dai…makit-an ni sa akong nanay. makatay man sad ta ani.

jo, it started as a bet, but i decided to continue. damn half-liter (katunga ra diay to yan oi) beermugs filled with rum coke!

now im back to zero! dammit!

    i should stop drinking.

    ay wait…nevermind. hahahha.

  5. that’s good Gen. I’m proud of you. Yup, I’m totally out of nicotine. Done.

I’ve had a few sticks since Jan but I don’t crave for it anymore. Yahoo, healthy lifestyle na ta ani.

    Ayaw lang gyud ang beer.

  6. jo, kuyawa nimo ug mga alias oi. wahahahaha. mas ganahan lagi ko sa dinuguan lover. hehehehe.

  7. I’m so waiting for the day when this dialogue happens:

    Somebody: “Makoy, bai, yosi oh?”

Makoy: “Sorry bai, I don’t smoke.”

  8. FYI:

    I was never a smoker.

    I couldn’t stop you guys…so I joined.

  9. never a smoker? watch out for those lightning bolts! you hypocrite! grrr!

  10. everyone’s going to manila…………. plus everyone’s quitting smoking?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

what is going on with the world?????

  11. not everyone’s moving to manila, al. mark’s staying. hahaha. long story.

quick update: i’m still moving forward with my AIM application, but something came up that made me think i should postpone my MBA for another year.

postponements are a little dangerous, as they have the potential to become full blown cancellations (one’s the virus, the other’s the disease). so i’m a bit wary. but i must do what i need to do.

in any case, i’m still going to be a frequent guest in makati - and my face will always be at the columns, where gen’s yaya’s yummy cooking awaits. wahahahahha. every time i need a break from the sickeningly healthy diet imposed by my parents, i’ll walk all the way to gen’s place.

grabe, gen, neighbors forever? i hope you’re not starting to get sick of me?

and as for quitting yosi…well, my dear allison, it’s part of this growing up thing that i’m desperately trying to do. must be one of those epiphanies, ya know? i’m getting old, but i’m not growing up. there lies the irony. you see, smoking is one of the many symbolic links to the reckless, self-destructive abandon with which i lived my youth. it’s time to move on, methinks.

in other news, BONITA IS COMING HOME!!! i’ve missed that bitch so much. I LOVE YOU, BON! can’t wait to see you!
