one of those days
By Yan • Feb 21st, 2008 • Category: SoliloquyI’m writing this from a 7-year old laptop that’s practically falling apart at the seams. The reason? This is the only working computer in our entire geekdom today. Imagine that. For two tech-obsessed freaks (i.e., Mark and who else?), this is sheer torture indeed.
Here’s a rough sketch of my current agony: The slightly-new-but-also-dilapidated laptop has locked me out of Windows. The hard drive in Mark’s overabused desktop PC is damaged beyond repair (he and I are still fervently praying to some nameless deity to save our files…save our files, please, please, please, I’ll do anything to save our files!). Thank goodness my own desktop computer is still in excellent working condition (albeit with some processing limitations these days, but that’s another story). Unfortunately, I cannot use it right now because Mark needs it to migrate data from his busted hard drive (assuming that he beats the odds, that is).
Lying down as I type these words, I certainly feel like an addict in rehab. I cannot access my files, I cannot tinker with my projects, I cannot do anything productive. I feel so darned helpless. (You want to drive me crazy? Isolate me for a full hour and ban me from doing anything. That will be the death of me. Stress addict, much?)
Earlier this afternoon, our new desktop PC arrived. However, we soon discovered that a bigger problem still looms - Mark fears that he may not be able to recover the data from his old hard drive. Noooooo!
I refuse to consider that possibility. Mark must retrieve the data. We need those files, dammit! Begone, negativity, begone!
Okay, I now feel stressed and high strung enough to actually feel like my old self again.
I better go see if I can help Mark.
Here’s hoping we’d get these issues resolved soon. I really do badly need to go back to work, you know.
Later…

Ari sa ko sa imo PC yan ha…ehehehe…nag-format pa ko sa usa…ehehehehe…
jan, we used to have a pretty extensive peerless back-up system that went bust, too. the power supply for peerless is only available in the states, so we can’t fix it right now. talk about malas. hehehe. anyway, we always have back-up redundancy. but we churn huge amounts of data daily, that a month without a proper backup is nearly fatal.
but we’re fine now.
me so happy. weeehhhh!
